Mica Acacia Miller, 30, of Myrtle Beach, SC, She was born March 7, 1994, in Wichita, Kansas, a daughter of Michael Francis and Angelita Ramirez.
Mica Miller was a graphic designer and a women’s ministry leader from Wichita, Kansas. Based in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, she was married to Pastor John-Paul Miller and was a stepmother to his five children. She and John-Paul oversaw the Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach. Mica’s loved ones remember her as “energetic, affirming, adventurous, faithful, loving, giving, forgiving, talented, joyous, creative, assertive, bold, determined, authoritative, passionate, hardworking, a risk taker, and so much more.

January 2023
- According to a police report, Mica Miller stated that she and her husband, John-Paul “JP” Miller, a pastor at Solid Rock Church, had separated. The couple had been married since 2018.
- Mica’s friends said she led the women’s ministry and worship team at the same church.
October 8, 2023
- The couple officially filed for divorce, according to court records.
February 8, 2024
- Mica was involuntarily hospitalized for 48 hours, according to a report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
February 10, 2024
- Mica was discharged from the hospital.
- Hospital staff informed Mica that John-Paul had reportedly picked up her purse and car keys while she was hospitalized.
- Mica returned to the Walmart Neighborhood Market parking lot, where she had left her car, only to find that it was gone.
February 21, 2024
- Mica reported to police that she believed John-Paul fraudulently initiated her “involuntary” hospitalization and stole her car while she was receiving treatment.
- Mica Miller told the officer that she had known John-Paul since she was 10 years old and claimed that he “groomed” her while she worked for him at Solid Rock Church until they married in 2018.
- When the officer reached out to John-Paul, he stated that Mica suffered from “episodes” on an annual basis around Christmas time. He alleged that she would spend large amounts of money when she stopped taking her prescribed medication.
- Since the car was considered marital property and they were still legally married, no charges were filed.
March 11, 2024
- Horry County Police Department reports indicate Mica called the police after discovering that her tire had been slashed with a piece of metal. It was later identified as a tire deflation device available for purchase online.
- Mica named a potential suspect as he soon to be ex-husband John Paul Miller, but investigators stated that there was insufficient evidence to prove the man was involved.
- Later that day, Mica reported that the same suspect approached her at a gas station. She told him she did not want to speak with him. When she pulled out her phone to record, the suspect drove away.
- The same suspect later showed up at the East Coast Honda dealership, where she was getting her car fixed.
- Mechanics at the dealership found a tracking device on her car, according to police reports.
- Mica reported that she was trying to obtain a restraining order at the local magistrate’s office because she was “afraid for her life.”
- A Magistrate Summons was issued for both Mica and John-Paul Miller to appear for a bench trial on March 26, 2024, regarding a civil case (Mica Miller v. John-Paul Miller), in which Mica sought a restraining order
March 13, 2024
- Someone at Solid Rock Church filed a police report alleging that Mica transferred donation funds from the church’s Zelle and Cash App accounts to her personal bank account.
- The donations were intended for the church’s 501(c)(3) organization called Dare to Care Mission, which was meant to fund a mission in Jebrock, Kenya.
- The report alleged that $1,199 was transferred to Mica’s personal account.

- 10:13 a.m. Mica is seen on her Ring camera leaving her residence on Margarita Drive in Myrtle Beach.
- 11:00 a.m. Mica returns home and is seen on her Ring camera arriving at her residence.
- 11:38 a.m. Mica is seen on her Ring camera leaving her residence again.
- 12:12 p.m. Mica enters Dick’s Pawn Shop at 1852 Mr. Joe White Avenue in Myrtle Beach.
- 12:13 p.m. Mica purchases a firearm.
- 12:34 p.m. Mica exits Dick’s Pawn Shop after purchasing the weapon and ammunition.
- 1:06 p.m. Mica’s black Honda Accord is seen traveling on Highway 501 near Four Mile Road in Conway.
- 1:27 p.m. Mica’s black Honda Accord arrives at 41 Grocery and Grill on Highway 41 in Mullins.
- 1:35 p.m. Mica purchases a drink and gas before leaving the store. Afternoon – 911 Call & Search
Afternoon – 911 Call and Search Efforts
- 2:54 p.m. Mica makes a 911 call, asks if her phone can be tracked, and then “threatens suicide.” A 911 call is made from an 843-area code number. She threatens suicide before hanging up. The telecommunication attempts to call Mica back multiple times but is unable to reach her. (WARNING: The 911 call discusses suicide and may be distressing for some listeners.)
- 3:03 p.m. – Robeson County deputies are dispatched to Lumber River State Park for a well-being check and to locate Mica.
- 3:05 p.m. – Deputies make contact with the Lumber River State Park superintendent.
- 3:20 p.m. – Deputies request a phone ping to locate Mica’s device.
- 3:31 p.m. – Deputies arrive at Lumber River State Park and begin searching alongside State Park rangers.
- 3:33 p.m. – The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Division dispatches Air3 sUAV drones to aid in the search.
- 3:42 p.m. – Verizon is contacted to request an updated phone location ping.
- 3:50 p.m. – Detectives using the Air3 sUAV drone arrive at the park
- A fisherman approaches detectives, stating that he found a bag with Mica’s ID inside.
- The fisherman tells investigators that he heard crying and then a gunshot before finding the bag about two feet from the water’s edge.
Discovery of Mica’s Body
- 4:23 p.m. A fisherman on a kayak calls 911 after finding a body in the water. Deputies secure the area to begin their investigation. • 5:30 p.m. – The Chief of Detectives for RCSO arrives at the location.
- 5:30 p.m. The Chief of Detectives for RCSO arrives at the scene.
- 5:54 p.m. Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) recover a Sig Sauer handgun in the water and a box of ammunition in Mica’s vehicle.
- The medical examiner is contacted.
- CSI technicians photograph the area, including Mica’s vehicle.
- Investigators collect items of evidence from both Mica’s car and the scene.
- 7:11 p.m. The firearm is located in the water.
Inside Mica’s Honda Accord, investigators find:
- A Sig Sauer gun case on the passenger seat.
- A box of ammunition in the center console.
- A receipt for the handgun purchase from the pawn shop.
- A receipt from a convenience store (both receipts are dated April 27, 2024).
- The serial number on the recovered weapon matches the gun case found in Mica’s car.
