How to get essential assistance

  • Unemployment Assistance:
    Individuals affected by flooding the designated area can apply for benefits online through Unemployment Benefit Services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631 between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Applications for DUA benefits under this declaration must be submitted by September 4, 2025.
  • Alamo Workforce Solutions personnel are available to process unemployment daily from 7 am – 7 pm at the Kerrville Career Center starting immediately. They will also be assisting with all other agency funding applications (SBA, FEMA, LiftFund, etc) 1099 workers are now included in this benefit and can apply for unemployment assistance.

Network Update

Our Emergency Management team deployed a SatCOLT (Satellite Cell on Light Truck) at the Unified Command Center in Kerrville to boost coverage inside the building and in the surrounding area. We also staged additional SatCOLTs nearby to respond to emerging needs.

Kerr County residents who suffered damages and/or losses to their primary residence, their business or their agricultural property as a result of the July 4 rains and flood, are being urged by Kerr County commissioners and emergency leaders to report those damages straight away. iSTAT

HUD Provides Foreclosure Relief to Texans Impacted by Floods

  • The 90-day moratorium prohibits mortgage servicers from initiating or completing foreclosure actions on FHA-insured single family forward or Home Equity Conversion mortgages in the Kerr County PDMDA. The moratorium is effective as of the President’s disaster declaration date.
  • Borrowers unable to make their mortgage payments should contact their mortgage servicer for assistance as soon as practical. Borrowers may also contact the FHA Resource Center at 800-CALL-FHA (1-800-225-5342) for assistance. The FHA Resource Center is prepared to accept calls from persons who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as individuals with speech or communication disabilities. Information on how to make an accessible phone call is available at https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/telecommunications-relay-service-trs.
  • For borrowers and renters who need immediate housing and disaster recovery assistance, HUD-certified housing counselors are prepared to provide guidance on the options that are available. To find a HUD-approved housing counseling agency, borrowers can use HUD’s online search tool or use our phone search by calling 800-569-4287.
  • For borrowers whose homes are destroyed or damaged to an extent that requires reconstruction or complete replacement, contact an FHA-approved lender about FHA’s Section 203(h) loan program. This program provides 100 percent financing for eligible homeowners to rebuild their home or purchase a new one.
  • For borrowers seeking to purchase and/or repair a home that has been damaged, contact an FHA-approved lender about FHA’s Section 203(k) loan program. This program allows individuals to finance the purchase or refinance of a house, as well as the costs of repair or renovation, through a single mortgage.

The Kerrville Driver License Office is ready to assist individuals affected by the flood who need a replacement Texas Driver License or Identification Card. No appointment is necessary for those impacted. Please be sure to inform their staff that you were affected by the flood.

University Response and Cancellations:

Florida State University canceled all classes and business operations on its main Tallahassee campus through Friday, April 18. All athletic events in Tallahassee were also canceled through Sunday, April 20.

Students were allowed to return to their residence halls but were asked to remain indoors. Those who chose to leave campus for the weekend were permitted to do so.

Students requiring support services were directed to the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, where the university provided access to counseling, medical care, and other resources. Family members seeking information or assistance were also advised to visit the Civic Center.

  • Vetster, an veterinary virtual care platform, is offering California residents free online appointments with licensed veterinarians for owners whose pets are feeling ill or are in need of medication that was left behind during an evacuation or lost to the fires. Visit the Vetster online help and support resource to set up an appointment. The offer is valid for one appointment per person for 500 pet parents from now until Jan. 23.
  • Petco is offering a free service to families who have lost their pets to Los Angeles-area fires. If you know someone who lost or are missing a pet due to wildfires report them missing for free on Petco Love Lost online .
  • Bath N’ Buns Mobile Pet Grooming: The locally-owned pet grooming service announced it will offer complimentary bath services for cats and dogs affected by the fires.

  • Bobbie, an organic baby formula company, is providing any parent affected by the fires — Bobbie customer or not — with free baby formula. Fire victims can apply for the free formula at Bobbie’s online application.
  • Los Angeles-area YMCA locations are offering free child care for children of first responders, essential workers and families who have been displaced, evacuated or who have otherwise experienced loss. Children must be at least 4 years, 9 months old up through eighth grade to attend the program. Space is limited. For more information or to sign up, contact [email protected].   • Community Resource Center in Pomona is offering free resources Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Provided items include baby supplies, emergency kits, food pantry and on-site resource referrals.   • Upwards is supporting daycare providers and families impacted by the fires. Upwards is currently reaching out to daycare providers to ensure their safety, assisting with immediate needs and temporary lodging, and helping assess the damage and plan for recovery. The network is also assisting families in locating available childcare options.   • Musicares, a nonprofit safety net of health and welfare services for the music community, is offering immediate assistance to anyone in the music industry, including $1,500 in financial aid and $500 food vouchers.   • Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation is providing emergency funds for members of the theatrical distribution and exhibition community affected by the Los Angeles-area fires.

  • Legal Miga Law is offering free contract guidance and review to individuals and businesses impacted by disruptions or delays caused by the Los Angeles-area wildfires. The firm can assist was leases, vendor agreements, client contracts and insurance policies. You can submit your request for assistance online .
  • Los Angeles Regional Small Business Legal Aid Program provides free legal services to qualified small businesses on a number of legal issues such as review of commercial leases, assistance in communicating with landlords, reviewing insurance policies, navigating insurance claims, among other services.   • East West Bank is offering a Skip a Pay program to any loan customer in Southern California who requests help due to the fires. The program will be rolled out next week. With no questions asked and no application needed, loan customers will be eligible to skip their next monthly payment and pay it instead one year from now. This will help fire victims not worry about a monthly bank payment. 
  • Californians who are unemployed due to the L.A. fires should apply for benefits right away, here.
  • Calamigos Ranch, in Malibu, is offering free breakfast burritos every day and through the weekend from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Calamigos Beach Club restaurant.
  • Highland Park Brewery is offering free lunch specials all weekend for first responders, evacuees or anyone affected by the fires. The specials include the HPB Burger, vegan chipotle burger, fried chicken sandwich, hot dog and grilled chicken club. On top of that, chef Caroline will offer her famous chili.   • Petco is offering a free service to families who have lost their pets to Los Angeles-area fires. If you know someone who lost or are missing a pet due to wildfires report them missing for free on Petco Love Lost online .

  • World Vision, a Christian-based relief organization, is distributing supplies to wildfire survivors at the World Vision Global Center on Sunday Jan. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. Supplies include food, water, face masks, toys, hygiene kits, bedding and more.   • YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is opening its locations that aren’t affected by the fires for temporary shelter, showers, basic amenities, and mental health support.   • Bobbie, an organic baby formula company, is providing any parent affected by the fires — Bobbie customer or not — with free baby formula. Fire victims can apply for the free formula at Bobbie’s online application.
  • Los Angeles-area YMCA locations are offering free child care for children of first responders, essential workers and families who have been displaced, evacuated or who have otherwise experienced loss.   • Legal Miga Law is offering free contract guidance and review to individuals and businesses impacted by disruptions or delays caused by the Los Angeles-area wildfires.   • Los Angeles Regional Small Business Legal Aid Program provides free legal services to qualified small businesses on a number of legal issues such as review of commercial leases, assistance in communicating with landlords, reviewing insurance policies, navigating insurance claims, among other services.   • East West Bank is offering a Skip a Pay program to any loan customer in Southern California who requests help due to the fires. The program will be rolled out next week. With no questions asked and no application needed, loan customers will be eligible to skip their next monthly payment and pay it instead one year from now. This will help fire victims not worry about a monthly bank payment.

  • Call the FEMA Helpline: 1-800-621-3362, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (in your time zone), 7 days a week.
  • Hours may be longer during high disaster activity. If you use a video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone (CTS), or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.
  • Find a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) near you.
  • DRCs are accessible and set up to provide help and answer questions after a disaster. The operating hours and services offered may vary at each DRC.

How to apply for FEMA assistance in Florida after Hurricane Milton

Assistance is available for affected homeowners and renters in the following counties:

Brevard, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, DeSoto, Duval, Flagler, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter and Volusia and the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida.

Homeowners and renters who previously applied for assistance after hurricanes Debby and Helene must apply separately for assistance for Hurricane Milton. Each disaster event may require a separate home inspection.

The following information is needed to apply for FEMA aid:

If you have homeowners, renters or flood insurance file a claim with their property insurance company as soon as possible.

  • A current phone number where you can be contacted.
  • Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.
  • Your Social Security number.
  • A general list of damage and losses.
  • Banking information if you choose direct deposit.
  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.

What to expect:

  • If FEMA need more information, FEMA will call, or send an email or a letter, to ask for what we need.
  • If you had disaster damage to your home or personal property, FEMA may confirm the damage by an onsite or remote inspection.
  • If you have homeowner’s insurance, FEMA may not send an inspector right away. You may need to submit insurance documents before we can schedule an inspection.
  • If a FEMA inspector confirms your damage, you will get a decision letter after the inspection.
  • If you’re approved, based on your choice, you may get a check from the U.S. Department of the Treasury or a direct deposit.
  • Whether approved for disaster assistance or not, FEMA will send you a letter to explain the decision. The letter will also include instructions on how to appeal if you disagree with FEMA’s decision.

Insurance
Please file a claim with insurance as soon as possible. If your insurance does NOT cover all of your needs, or is delayed, call FEMA’s Helpline for more information.

If you’re referred to SBA for a Disaster Loan, you must submit the  SBA application for FEMA to consider you for certain types of assistance.

The State Assistance Information Line is now open 24/7 with English, Spanish and Haitian-Creole speakers available at 1-800-342-3557.

Florida partnered with Uber and Lyft to provide residents in mandatory evacuation zones free rides returning home from local shelters.

  • To get a ride with Uber, residents should: open the Uber app, tap Account on the bottom right and tap Wallet, and add promo code MILTONRELIEF1.
  • Lyft has activated the Lyft Up Disaster Response Program to provide free and discounted rides to help those in affected areas travel to and from designated shelters with critical resources. Riders can use code MILTONRELIEF24 for two rides up to $25 to and from state-approved shelters.

The Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs (FDVA) has announced that outpatient appointments at VA Clinics in the impacted areas are being rescheduled or converted to virtual. Evacuation Info: I. Effective at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, all persons living in Licensed facilities. Ambulatory Surgery Centers, in the following portions and elements of St. Johns County, Florida shall evacuate:

  • a. All of Evacuation Zone A;
  • b. All of Evacuation Zone B;
  • c. Parts of Evacuation Zone F,

South of State Road 206; II. Effective at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, all persons living in assisted living facilities in the following portions and elements of St. Johns County, Florida shall evacuate:

  • c. Parts of Evacuation Zone F, South of State Road 206;

Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA)

FloridaCommerce announced that Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is available to businesses and residents whose employment or self-employment was lost or interrupted as a direct result of Hurricane Helene and are not eligible for regular state or federal Reemployment Assistance benefits. Eligible Floridians whose employment or self-employment was lost or interrupted as a direct result of Hurricane Helene are encouraged to submit a claim at   FloridaJobs.org.
