• Born: March 28, 2005, in Queens, New York.
• Raised: Moved with his family to Houston, Texas, around age 13.
• Education: Home-schooled after the 7th grade.
• Musical Exposure: Initially listened almost exclusively to gospel music until about age 13. He grew up singing in his church choir, where he also learned to play piano. His earliest musical exposure came primarily through gospel music.
• Gaming: Outside of church, he was like many teenage boys — an avid gamer. In his early teens, he developed a passion for Fortnite and began creating and uploading gameplay montages to YouTube. To enhance these videos, Burke used popular songs as soundtracks. When repeated copyright strikes threatened his channel, his mother suggested that he try making original music to avoid the strikes. Following her advice, he began experimenting with production apps and recording at home, which quickly evolved into songwriting and the development of his own musical style.

2021

• d4vd began using his sister’s walk-in closet to experiment with the only recording equipment he had at the time: his iPhone, earbuds and online music-making software BandLab. His inspiration came from video-game storylines and alt-rock bands he discovered through other YouTube montages like The Neighborhood, Arctic Monkeys and Wallows. He created his first song, the ethereal, piano-led “Run Away,” and several tracks followed, including “You and I,” “Here With Me” and, of course, “Romantic Homicide.”
