Amber Alert Controversy:
- An Amber Alert was not issued for the missing sisters because the case did not meet the specific criteria, leading to public criticism. Instead, an Endangered Missing Person Alert was utilized.
- LE said the Decker case met only three criteria — the girls’ ages, descriptive information and the federal data entry. Because Decker has custodial rights, there was not an immediate legal presumption that the children were abducted or in danger. Wenatchee police did not have any evidence of abuse or violence that would indicate Decker might hurt or threaten the girls, police Capt. Brian Chance said. Had the situation met that threshold, an Amber Alert could have been issued.
Community Response:
- The local community has been deeply affected by the tragedy.
- Counseling services are being offered at Lincoln Elementary School, where the girls were students. Source
