Dr. Peter Hackett Letter to CBS

Mari Gilbert, Shannan’s mother, received a phone call from Dr. Peter Hackett, an Oak Beach resident, who allegedly claimed that he “ran a home for wayward girls” and had treated Shannan on the morning of her disappearance. A few days later, he also called Shannan’s sister. Investigators later confirmed through phone records that Hackett had made these calls following Shannan’s disappearance. Additionally, he admitted to making the calls in two letters to CBS in 2011. Despite this, he was ultimately ruled out as a suspect. In 2012, Shannan Gilbert’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Hackett.
