- Father: Nephi Fischer, reportedly still involved with or sympathetic to FLDS teachings
- Children:
- Elintra Dee Fischer, born ~2005

July 2014 – Ordered to Leave by FLDS Leadership Source
- Elizabeth Roundy is instructed by FLDS leaders to leave Hildale, Utah to “repent” for unspecified reasons.
- She is told to leave all her children behind, except for her 10-year-old son Benjamin, whom leaders described as “unclean.”
- With $4,000 and a barely functioning van, Roundy departs Hildale, accompanied by a cousin who recommends relocating to Nebraska.
Arrival in Nebraska — Minden (Summer 2014)
- Roundy settles at a run-down motel in Minden, where the motel owner hires her to do laundry.
- Roundy and Benjamin live in a small motel room and continue to follow strict FLDS teachings, including:
- No television
- No internet
- No cell phones
- No contact with outside media
- Benjamin is home-schooled in the motel room.
📍 Move to Hastings, Nebraska (Late 2014–2015)
- After saving enough money, Roundy and Benjamin move to an apartment in Hastings.
- She is forbidden by FLDS leadership from calling her other children who remained in Hildale.
- At one point, her eldest son Jonathan makes contact, calling her for the first time.
- They speak for approximately four hours, in segments because he had to call back twice.
- Roundy is deeply moved and worried for her children, expressing a strong desire to reunite.
📞 2014–2016 – Repeated Phone Calls from FLDS Leaders
- Roundy receives approximately four phone calls from FLDS leadership.
- Each time, she asks about her children and is told:
- “They’re doing wonderful.”
- “Did you send any money?”
- Instead of an invitation to return, she’s repeatedly asked to send donations.
- In 2016, during the last call she received, she promises to send a few hundred dollars earned from her paper route job.
- The job allowed her to take Benjamin with her and assist with his homework during deliveries.
Fall 2017 – Disturbing Call from Nephi Fischer
- Roundy hears occasionally from her estranged husband, Nephi Fischer, who, like her, was also exiled from the FLDS.
- Elizabeth Roundy receives a call from her ex-husband Nephi Fischer, who tells her an anonymous caller reached out with concerns about the children’s welfare in Hildale.
- The caller allegedly said the children were “not in a loving situation.”
- Roundy is deeply alarmed and considers returning immediately, but Nephi reminds her that doing so without church permission would label her an apostate.
- Roundy decides to stay in Nebraska but remains worried and emotionally torn.
November 2019 – Death in the Family
- Roundy learns that her father has passed away.
- She calls Nephi for advice about whether she should attend the funeral.
- To her surprise, he encourages her to go.
- The two meet up in Colorado and drive 16 hours together to Monteview, Idaho for the funeral.
- This is Roundy’s first reunion with her family in two decades.
- Her family is shocked, but welcomes her warmly.
- However, Nephi insists they leave after only a few hours, which leaves Roundy frustrated and reflective.
- During the long, complaint-filled drive back, Roundy realizes: “What in the world am I doing? I’m exiled out in Nebraska when I could be here with my loving family… and I wanted my children back.”
📍 Decision to Return to Idaho
- During the return trip to Nebraska, Roundy makes a life-altering decision:
→ She will move back to Monteview, Idaho and reclaim her children.
March 2020 – Operation to Recover the Children Source
- Roundy drives to Parowan, Utah, where her three children are believed to be living.
- Jonathan is now 18 and free to choose his path. Elintra and the younger siblings are still minors.
- She searches for their home but can’t locate them and eventually goes to the police department for help.
- An officer advises her: Not to show up without a court order. Warns that children in similar cases often “vanish” if the parent appears without legal backing.
April 2020 – Legal Intervention and Confrontation Source
- With legal paperwork now secured, Roundy returns to Parowan with her brother and several police officers.
- They go to the home where the children are being held.
- At first, the children are not home.
- When they arrive, Roundy walks up to Elintra, who says coldly: “What in the hell are you doing here?”
- A tense standoff follows as caretakers refuse to comply with the court order. They invite Roundy into the home alone, without her brother or police. They begin pressuring her, saying, “The prophet is going to be delivered.”
- Roundy nearly gives in but is reminded by her attorney on the phone: “If you give in… and don’t take your children right now… you’re going to lose your chance.”
- Police Search and Retrieval:
- Officers begin searching the house:
- Her youngest son is found hiding in a hall closet, so frightened he wets his pants.
- The two daughters are discovered hiding in a high kitchen cabinet—a ladder is needed to reach them.
- Jonathan and a woman in the home are handcuffed for obstructing officers.
- Officers physically carry the children out and place them in Roundy’s truck. “It was just heartbreaking. It wasn’t what I wanted. I was trying to just peacefully get my children,” she recalls.
- Roundy and her brother lock the doors and drive the children to Monteview, Idaho, to begin a new chapter of life, free from FLDS control.
- Since then, Elizabeth had expressed concerns about the influence the FLDS might still hold over her children.
