Mari Gilberg

Mari Gilbert born on June 22, 1964 to John W. Cox Sr. and JuneRose C. Gran in in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Mari’s father John W. Cox Sr was a brick-maker who drank hard on the weekends. Her mother June Rose was a woman of faith, changing churches constantly.

She married Floyd Gilbert and had three children with him. Floyd suffered from schizophrenia and was a cocaine addicted.

1985, Mari left her husband and relocated with their three daughters to Rockland County, upstate New York , they briefly stayed with Mari’s Mother JuneRose. At the time, Shannan was five, Sherre was four, and Sarra was three.

  • 1:45 p.m., police officers Antonio John Bell and Alba Gonzalez were dispatched to Sarra Gilbert’s residence after one of Sarra’s sisters contacted police expressing concern
  • Officers arrived and found Mari Gilbert’s car in the driveway
  • Officers knocked on windows and doors but received no response
  • Family members arrived, including Shannan’s sister Sherre, who informed officers that Sarra had called her earlier that morning saying she was hearing voices
  • The victim’s boyfriend opened a window and saw Mari lying motionless inside the residence
  • Officer Bell kicked in the door and entered the residence
