The Tragic Story of JJ Vallow: A Timeline of His Life and DisappearanceBirth and Adoption:

Joshua “JJ” Vallow was born on May 25, 2012. His early life was spent in the care of his grandparents, Kay and Larry Woodcock, who looked after him for the first 10 months of his life. In 2014, JJ was officially adopted by Lori and Charles Vallow. JJ was the biological grandson of Kay Woodcock, Charles Vallow’s sister.

Lori Vallow’s Behavioral Shift:

By February 2019, Lori Vallow’s behavior took a drastic turn. She abandoned her family for nearly two months, and her husband, Charles Vallow, filed for divorce on February 5, 2019. Around this time, Lori became increasingly involved with Chad Daybell, a religious author with extreme apocalyptic beliefs. She began embracing radical ideologies and distancing herself from her family. Before leaving, Lori reportedly told Charles she no longer cared about him or JJ.

The Death of Charles Vallow:

On July 11, 2019, Charles Vallow was shot and killed in Chandler, Arizona, by Lori’s brother, Alex Cox. Cox claimed that Charles had attacked him with a baseball bat, leading him to shoot in self-defense. Authorities did not charge Cox with any crimes, and shortly after, Lori relocated to Rexburg, Idaho, with her children, including JJ.

Move to Rexburg, Idaho:

Lori moved to Rexburg to be closer to Chad Daybell, who was still married to Tammy Daybell at the time. JJ was enrolled at Kennedy Elementary School in early September 2019, and school officials started working on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for him due to his special needs.

Discovery of JJ’s Remains:

On June 9, 2020, authorities searched Chad Daybell’s property in Idaho and made a horrifying discovery:

  • JJ was found buried under large flat stones near a tree.
  • His body was inside a black plastic bag, wearing red pajamas and socks.
  • His mouth was duct-taped shut, and his arms and legs were bound.
  • His body showed visible bruising and signs of partial decomposition.
