December 8, 2024

• 10:24 a.m. a tragic car accident occurred on Fayette County 73 near Morris Cemetery Road in Fayette County involving Steven Collins, his partner Wendy Bailey, their 2-year-old daughter RyLeigh, and their missing child. The vehicle crashed into a tree, resulting in the deaths of Collins and RyLeigh, while Bailey sustained critical injuries.
• According to troopers, Collins was driving aggressively at a speed of 92 MPH on a wet road when he lost control of the truck. The vehicle spun out and slammed into the tree. Neither parent was wearing a seat belt, and the child was reportedly not secured in a car seat. Witnesses also observed the truck being operated recklessly prior to the crash.
• Collins was ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the hospital. His daughter suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Bailey was partially ejected and was airlifted to the hospital for emergency treatment.

• Kahleb’s grandfather, John Elton Bailey was arrested and charged with failing to report a missing child. He remains in custody at the Fayette County Jail.

John Elton Bailey, 55 the father of Wendi Bailey and grandfather of Kahleb Collins, lived at 13365 Highway 129, just outside Winfield, Alabama. He shared the home with his daughter, her two children—Kahleb Collins and RyLeigh Collins—and their father, Steven Bradley “Brad” Collins. As a court-appointed custodian of the children due to the involvement of the Department of Human Resources (DHR), John had a legal duty to ensure their safety and report any concerns, including Kahleb’s disappearance.

On December 11, 2024, John Elton Bailey was arrested and charged with “Failure to Report a Missing Child.” According to court records, the alleged crime occurred on September 10, 2024, in Fayette County, Alabama, just days after Kahleb was last seen. Despite his custodial responsibilities, authorities claim Bailey failed to notify law enforcement of the child’s disappearance.

Bailey remains in custody at the Fayette County Jail, held without bond. His arrest marks a critical development in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Kahleb Collins, who has been missing for over three months. Authorities continue to search for the child while piecing together the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

• Court filings include subpoenas requesting all records from the Department of Human Resources (DHR) related to Steven Bradley “Brad” Collins, Wendy Pamela Bailey, RyLeigh Collins, and Kahleb Collins, covering potential abuse or neglect since January 2024. In response, Judge Merrell Nolen ordered that the DHR records be sealed, with a confidential court review to determine which documents, if any, are relevant to the case.

Wendy “Pam” Bailey, 22, is charged with abuse of corpse, a Class C felony, aggravated child abuse, a Class A Felony, first-degree domestic violence, a Class A felony, and criminally negligent homicide. 
• Bailey was released from UAB Hospital and booked into the Fayette County Jail.
