When New Canaan Police arrived at Jennifer Dulos’s rented home, they were met with a grim scene. Blood was found on the floor of the garage, raising immediate concerns about her safety. A little over an hour later, detectives made another disturbing discovery. Jennifer’s Suburban SUV, also containing traces of blood, was found abandoned near Waveny Park, just a few miles from her home. The evidence suggested that something terrible had happened, setting off a search that would grip the community and the nation.

Shortly after Jennifer Dulos was reported missing around 7 p.m. on May 24, 2019, New Canaan police made a chilling discovery at her Welles Lane home. Blood spatter was found in the garage and on a vehicle, indicating a violent struggle. Investigators also noted signs of an attempted cleanup, leading them to conclude that a serious physical assault had occurred, with Jennifer as the suspected victim.
According to arrest warrants for Fotis Dulos and Michelle Troconis, investigators believed that Fotis had lain in wait for his estranged wife, ambushing her in the garage after she returned from dropping their children off at school. The evidence pointed to a premeditated attack, marking the beginning of a tragic and complex investigation.

Jennifer Dulos was bound with zip ties during the alleged attack. Four ties were used, the warrant states, and two were found with Jennifer Dulos’ blood on them. The warrant states that the zip ties appeared to be used to secure and incapacitate Jennifer Dulos, and that it was reasonable to conclude she was alive when the zip ties were attached to restrain her movements and prevent her escape.
