Jared G. Bridegan

Jared Bridegan was born to Gaylord and JoAnn Bridegan in Warrensburg, Missouri. His family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he graduated in 2007 from the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. He later earned a B.S. in digital media, specializing in cinema production, from Utah Valley University in 2014.

Bridegan, a talented professional, held senior roles in UX design and technology, ultimately becoming a senior design manager at Microsoft. He was a devoted father of four, with two children from his ex-wife Shanna Gardner-Fernandez and two with his current wife, Kirsten Bridegan, who had left her role as a Microsoft account manager to become a full-time mother.

In February 2010, Jared Bridegan and Shanna Gardner met through Jared’s brother’s wife. Intrigued by Shanna, Jared flew out to Utah to take her on their first date. Their connection was instant, and within just two months, they decided to marry, marking the beginning of their life together. Their whirlwind romance quickly evolved into a marriage that would later play a significant role in the story of Jared’s life.

Jared and Shanna had twins. Liam was born with medical condition.

December 2013 Jared Moved to CT.

January 11, 2014 their son had a surgery.

January 27, 2014 Shanna and the kids followed Jared and moved from Utah to Connecticut due to Liam having a medical condition that required them to be close to his specialist.

June 30, 2014 – Jared convinced Shanna to move to Florida for a fresh start, following the doctor’s recommendations for Liam’s Medical Condition. They moved in with Jared Parents. At the time, Jared was pursuing a master’s degree online at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Shortly after GARDNER and Bridegan were married, Shelli Gardner’s family trust entered into a scholarship and stipend agreement with Shanna Gardner and Jared Bridegan. Under The agreement Jared Bridegan received higher education expenses through a monthly stipend. To receive proceeds under the agreement, Bridegan was required to be an active Mormon Church member and remain married to Gardner. This stipend amounted to $8,500 per month and included healthcare coverage equivalent to the benefits received by Stampin’ Up employees.

Throughout their marriage, the Gardners provided substantial financial support to Shanna and Jared. In 2011 The Gardners gifted the mortgage of a home, amounting to almost $370,000. In 2013, Gardner redeemed an interest in one of the umbrella companies of Stampin’ Up for $440,000. Between 2011 and 2014, Gardner and Bridegan received cash gifts of $25,000 from the Gardners on several occasions. The Gardners also set up trusts for the twins in Bridegan’s name.

Divorce from Shanna Gardner

The Move

June 30, 2014 They moved from CT to FL, staying with Jared’s parents. Later They bought $800,000 house in Ponte Vedra Beach south of Jacksonville.

July 1, 2014 they finally moved in into their home. In her Blog Shanna writes:

“Since moving to sea level and/or the sildenafil working Liam has made an remarkable amount of progress. The pressure in his heart has decreased and his lungs are much more relaxed, ultimately this is probably from being at sea level. Because he has shown so much improvement in such a short time the specialist is very hopeful that he will be able to realistically manage his disease with medications.”

For the Holidays Jared Bridegan bought Shanna Gardner-Fernandez, a package of training sessions. Shanna stopped going to church and started zealously working out. It is said that she became frustrated with Jared who had gained weight and was trying to get his businesses off the ground.

The fresh start failed and the couple drifted further apart. Jared remained a devout LDS member, while Shanna moved further away from their religion.

February 23, 2015 Shanna Gardner filed for divorce

During her marriage to Jared, Shanna Gardner met a trainer at the gym and became involved with him. This connection made her realize that she had deeper feelings for the trainer than she did for her husband. This emotional shift contributed to the strain in her relationship with Jared, eventually leading to their separation.

Shanna had joined a CrossFit gym after Jared bought her some PT sessions as a gift.

She allegedly began an affair with the personal trainer.

Jared found some emails between the two. He confronted her, and she told him she didn’t love him anymore.

Jared told his family members “‘I don’t recognize this person. I married a totally different person.’”

Jared had always believed in the sanctity of marriage, but as time went on, things between him and Shanna started to unravel. Shanna, a confident and driven woman, had always been focused on her career and personal goals. Jared admired her for that, but over the last few months, he noticed a shift in her demeanor. She became distant, emotionally withdrawing from their relationship. The once-strong bond they shared seemed to be fraying at the edges.

The tipping point came when Jared noticed Shanna’s increasing attachment to her personal trainer at the gym. It wasn’t long before Shanna told Jared she wanted a divorce. She insisted that it had nothing to do with infidelity. “We just don’t love each other anymore,” she explained, denying any affair. But Jared couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to the story.

Heartbroken and confused, Jared reached out to Mallary, a mutual friend who had always been a good listener. In a late-night email, he poured out his thoughts. “In the past 3 months, Shanna has become really distant and got emotionally attached to her personal trainer at the gym. And now she’s divorcing me. But she has her agency, so I just need to move on and find someone to be my best friend again, ya know.”

The divorce, however, was far from amicable. What started as a mutual decision quickly spiraled into a bitter and contentious battle. The court file grew thicker by the day, with over 300 entries detailing the accusations and counteraccusations between the two. Shanna accused Jared of “disturbing and abusive behavior,” alleging that he regularly interrogated their children, coaching them on what to say and then recording their statements. She claimed Jared threatened to use these recordings against her, painting a picture of a man desperate to maintain control.

Jared, on the other hand, alleged that Shanna had locked him out of the master bedroom, treating him with disdain and disrespect in front of their children. He also accused her of installing surveillance devices throughout their home, a move he saw as a violation of his privacy and a sign of her growing mistrust.

As the court proceedings dragged on, it became clear that the divorce would leave deep scars on both Jared and Shanna. What had started as a marriage filled with love and promise had deteriorated into a battlefield of accusations and hurt. In the end, neither side emerged unscathed, and the children found themselves caught in the middle of a war they never asked to be a part of.

Jared knew that moving on wouldn’t be easy, but he also understood that he couldn’t dwell on the past. He had to pick up the pieces of his life and find a way to rebuild, hoping that one day he would find someone who could be his best friend again.

After his divorce, Jared got engaged to Emily V. but the relationship didn’t work out, and Emily eventually moved back to Utah.

2017 – Emails Shanna and Jared

2017 Jared & Kirsten Marriage

The couple’s story began in the digital world in 2017, where they first met on a dating app Mutual, which is for singles, who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From the moment she saw his profile, she knew there was something special about him. “What first struck me was his profile picture. It was of him with his twins,” she recalled, the image of Jared with his children leaving a lasting impression on her.

Their connection was instant, and it wasn’t long before Jared was making the effort to see her in person. Despite the distance between them—Jared lived in Jacksonville, while she was in Charlotte, North Carolina—he was determined to make it work. Every weekend when he didn’t have his children with him, Jared would drive the long 6 1/2 hours just to spend time with her. These weekend visits became the foundation of their budding relationship, with each visit bringing them closer together.

After about four months of long drives and cherished weekends, she decided to take a leap of faith. She moved to Jacksonville, eager to start a new chapter with Jared. Their relationship, which had started with a simple swipe on a dating app, culminated in marriage in 2017. It was the beginning of what they both hoped would be a lifetime of happiness together.

On October 22, 2017, Jared and Kirsten married and later had two children.

2018 Shanna & Mario Marriage

In 2018, Gardner and Mario quietly got married in Jacksonville. It was a private affair, with no one outside their immediate circle aware of the union. To most, it seemed sudden and perhaps even hasty, but Gardner and Mario had their reasons. “We didn’t know each other very well when we got married,” Gardner later confessed, acknowledging the unconventional nature of their decision.

Mario and Gardner had just started dating when they decided to take a trip to Utah to visit her parents. It was an opportunity for Mario to get to know Gardner’s family and to deepen their relationship.

Shannan Gardner’s mother, seeing the connection between them and the challenges Gardner was facing, made a surprising suggestion. “Why don’t you two get married?” she proposed, sensing that it might bring some stability to Gardner’s life.

Gardner was taken aback by the idea. She knew that their relationship was still in its early stages and that marriage was a big step. “We wouldn’t have a typical marriage,” she admitted to Mario later, when they discussed her mother’s suggestion. But there was a certain convenience to the idea, especially when it came to the well-being of her children. Gardner and Mario both wanted what was best for the kids, and they recognized that their partnership could offer a supportive environment.

Mario Enrique Fernandez Saldana was in the Army and was charged with Forcible Sodomy & Sexual Assault for forcing a recruit under his charge while in his position as a drill instructor in the US Army. The charges were dropped, and he was discharged Less than Honorable January 9, 2018.

One of the primary motivations behind the marriage was the children. Mario wanted to help Gardner with her kids, but Jared, Gardner’s ex, was hesitant about allowing another man to be involved in their lives. The only way Jared would agree to Mario’s involvement was if they were married. So, with that understanding, Gardner and Mario took the plunge, formalizing their relationship in a way that allowed Mario to be a part of the children’s lives.

Despite the unconventional start to their marriage, Gardner and Mario were committed to making it work, focusing on creating a stable and loving environment for the kids. It wasn’t the traditional love story, but it was one built on practicality and a shared desire to do right by the children. And in that sense, it was a marriage that, though unexpected, served its purpose.

Fernandez Saldana made statements that he could “get four guys,” break into Bridegan’s residence in the middle of the night and “take care of him and nobody would ever know.” The witness also stated one evening, while out to dinner, she and Fernandez Saldana had a disagreement over how to handle her child. During this encounter, FERNANDEZ SALDANA said to her, “You know I’ve killed people before” – a statement she understood to be a threat.

January 24, 2022, Bridegan sent GARDNER an email advising her that he was planning to have one of the twins baptized in the Mormon Church. Witnesses indicated that Bridegan’s twin daughter was beginning to favor Bridegan and K.B. and wished to be more involved in the Mormon faith. Shannan was angry and against it.

Murder of Jared Bridegan

Jared Galen Bridegan June 29, 1988 – February 16, 2022

Jared Bridegan, 33, had just dropped off his twins at the home of his ex-wife, Shanna Gardner-Fernandez, and her husband, Mario Fernandez Saldana, after taking them out for dinner and ice cream.

As he drove home to St. Augustine with his 2-year-old daughter, he stopped for a tire placed in the middle of the road. He was tragically shot multiple times, though his daughter was unharmed and witnessed the entire incident, with several bullets hitting the car, striking within inches of the young girl trapped inside.

Police not only had surveillance audio from neighbors, but they also obtained surveillance video of the ambush murder.

The video showed the muzzle flashes and the shooter running off, the reports state.. shooter fired four shots, two hit Bridegan and two hit the SUV.

Jared Bridegan Funeral and Vigil

Shanna Gardner instead of going to Jared’s funeral, she decided to held their own celebration. Her family claimed in the blog posted on March 21, 2022 that Gardner, her family and everybody who knows her’ was ‘uninvited’ from the funeral.

After Shanna {along with anyone who knew her) was uninvited from Jared’s funeral services. Shanna and the twins planned their own celebration of life. It was so sweet to see Liam and Abby surrounded by family and friends as they recalled happy memories of their dad. Just before sunset, everyone cut flowers from beautiful arrangements, walked over the dune together, and tossed them into the ocean as a farewell. The guests received heart-shaped cookies, made by Liam and Abby (with their mom’s help, of course!), to thank them for joining in the celebration.

Later Shanna Added

Kirsten offered to arrange to pick up Liam and Abby prior to the memorial service and then bring them back…but since not one person from Jared’s family, including his parents, had reached out to Liam and Abby, the twins didn’t want to be without their mom.’

After Jared’s Funeral

  • February 28, 2022 – Shanna Gardner emailed Kristen Asking for a copy of Jared’s death certificate
  • March 16: The first interview was held
  • March 24: Shanna finally responds to a request to FaceTime the kids and says she’d like to have a conversation with me first. Refused to text or email and wants it to be on the phone.
  • March 25: – Phone conversation with Shanna. She agreed to allow 1 Facetime call per week between Bexley and the twins.
  • April 18: The kids had their 1 FaceTime call per week for ~3 weeks until she canceled the call scheduled for April 18th and said there would be no more Facetime calls moving forward. Kristen responded and asked “if we could at least speak to them on their birthday, April 20th”. She agreed.
  • April 19: Candlelight vigil held – Shanna and twins do not attend despite it being an open invitation to any and all.
  • April 20: Last Facetime call with the twins.
  • Kirsten sent numerous texts asking for contact with the twins since then, no response or an excuse as to why it cannot happen. Other family members have reached out as well – they’ve been ignored. The kids have been completely cut off from their Dad’s family.
  • December 2022 and January 2023, Shanna moved with her kids to West Richland, Washington (Tri-Cities area in SE Washington State) to live near her friend, Marla Rogers, who Shanna met in 2020 at a Baking Conference.
  • June 2022 Gardner, 35, gave interview to the local newspaper the Florida Times-Union and insisted she had nothing to do with the execution of her ex-husband.”
  • August 2022, Jared’s murder remains unsolved.
Shanna and Mario after the murder

After Jared was murdered, Shanna and her husband Mario hired Henry Coxe III, a criminal defense attorney.

Shanna told the media she hired him to help protect her family from publicity and to keep her children out of the media.

Shanna has also told the media that her children are terrified at the media attention that has been focused on them.

“I can’t take it away,” Shanna said. “My kids are 10. They understand everything that is going on. They see this and they are scared, terrified and struggling.”

Shanna Separated from Mario and moved to WA.

on February 17, 2022 Bridegan’s current wife, Kirsten Bridegan, spoke with the twins, and the twins inquired whether Bridegan had a will, which struck her as very odd.

Gardner maintained a small baking business, and was a listed co owner in First Choice Home Rentals, LLC. However, the majority of her income came from the trust that was funded by her parents. Apparently in an effort to keep Bridegan from gaining access to any of her trust funds, and for Gardner to appear impecunious, she maintained very little money in her personal account, and showed almost no personal income. Bank records confirmed that Gardner never maintained more than $2,500.00 in her personal accounts at any time between January 01, 2021, and March 30, 2022 but in April 2022, Gardner’s bank records indicated an excess of $200,000 in her personal accounts.

At the time of Bridegan’s murder, Fernandez Saldana had over $400,000.00 in his account. Investigation further revealed that at the time of Bridegan’s murder, Gardner and Fernandez Saldana were separated and planning to divorce.

At the time of homicide Shanna Gardner owned White Model Y, with WA Plate: CFH7529 Tesla, and the vehicle was primarily driven by Shanna.

Investigation

Shanna Gardner, Bridegan’s ex-wife, and her second husband, Mario Fernandez Saldana, stand accused of orchestrating his murder. They allegedly hired Henry Tenon to execute the fatal shooting. In March 2023, Tenon pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and agreed to testify against them.

Jared Bridegan’s routine drive home on the night of the incident seemed like any other until it took a tragic turn. He was driving south on Sanctuary Boulevard, a dark, residential roadway, after dropping off his 9-year-old twin children at their mother, Shanna Gardner’s home. Gardner, who shared custody of the twins with Bridegan, lived nearby in Jacksonville Beach with her new husband, Mario Fernandez Saldana. Bridegan’s 2-year-old daughter from his current marriage to Kirsten Bridegan was still in the car, having accompanied him on their regular “date night” dinner with the twins.

As Bridegan followed his usual route home, he turned onto Sanctuary Boulevard, a road that led to J. Turner Butler Boulevard. Unlike the nearby commercial areas, Sanctuary Boulevard was quiet and dark, with no businesses in the vicinity.

While driving, Bridegan encountered a damaged tire lying in the middle of the road, blocking his path. Given the lack of prior vehicles swerving around it, it appeared that the tire had been deliberately placed there to obstruct his way. Analyzing the situation, Bridegan stopped his car, turned on his hazard lights, and opened his door to move the tire. It was a decision that would have devastating consequences.

Moments before the fatal incident, Jared Bridegan had spoken with his wife, Kirsten, who later told investigators that there was nothing unusual in their conversation. Bridegan was unarmed, and there was no sign of a struggle at the scene. His personal belongings, including his wristwatch, wedding ring, phone, money, and wallet, were untouched. His car remained where he had left it, and most crucially, his 2-year-old daughter was physically unharmed, though bullets had struck the interior of the vehicle near where she was strapped in her car seat. Witnesses who arrived at the scene found the child crying, clearly traumatized by the events that had unfolded.

Motion-activated surveillance cameras around the scene showed no indication of the tire being in the roadway before the shooting, further suggesting that it had been intentionally placed to force Bridegan to stop. The tire was later identified as belonging to a 2004 Ford F-150 Lariat, a detail that would become significant in the investigation.

As law enforcement delved deeper into the case, they found a chilling connection between Bridegan and Henry Tenon, a man who would later plead guilty and testify against Mario Fernandez Saldana. Tenon had been a tenant in a home on Potomac Avenue in Jacksonville, Florida, which was owned by Fernandez Saldana. This single link between Bridegan and Tenon pointed to a conspiracy that was far more intricate and sinister than initially believed, ultimately leading to the arrest of Fernandez Saldana on charges related to Bridegan’s murder.

The Evidence: Surveillance Video of a Truck

The Night of The Murder

Surveillance Video – Blue Ford F-150

Surveillance of Sanctuary Boulevard shows that vehicles freely passed through Sanctuary Boulevard before the murder, suggesting the tire in the roadway was a ruse to get Bridegan to stop. The tire belonged to a 2004 Ford 150 Lariat. TENON drove a blue 2004 Ford 150 Lariat truck. His DNA has been identified on the tire recovered from the road on which Bridegan was murdered, and TENON admitted to owning the tire when shown a picture of it.

Investigators gathered surveillance video from the area of the murder, and it revealed the presence of a blue-Ford-150 pickup truck. TENON was shown surveillance pictures of the h·uck near the homicide scene and confined it was his truck. A surveillance picture of the truck, before the homicide, showed an item in the truck’s bed. When shown this photograph, TENON confirmed a spare tire in the truck’s bed. Additionally, the surveillance video revealed the truck traveling to and from the area of the murder about an hour before the murder, suggesting the driver might have been practicing the route. Security camera footage showed the truck driving in front of Bridegan’s car approximately 5 minutes before the murder and attempting to create space between the truck and Bridegan’s car – presumably in an attempt to time the placement of the tire so to block Bridegan and no other drivers.

  • 6:25:33 p.m. 1712 Beach Boulevard: the SUSPECT TRUCK traveled eastbound on Beach Boulevard. This location is .45 miles from 1511 Marsh Inlet Court, where Bridegan picked up and dropped his children off at the end of the night.

The SUSPECT TRUCK continued westbound on Shetter and parked in a cul-de-sac in the 1600 Block of Shetter Avenue. This location is approximately .20 miles from GARDNER and FERNANDEZ SALDANA’s residence. The SUSPECT TRUCK sat in this location for approximately 19 minutes.
  • 7:50 p.m. 2705 America Avenue: the SUSPECT TRUCK traveled southbound on America Avenue. The SUSPECT TRUCK was in front of Bridegan’s vehicle. The SUSPECT TRUCK appeared to be “tailgating” an unknown white truck, purportedly to create distance between Bridegan’s vehicle. This is merely two minutes prior to the recorded gunshots.
  • 7:52:52 p.m. 4067 America Avenue (Captured video of murder in 4000 Block of Sanctuary Parkway): Bridegan’s vehicle was stopped in the road with the hazard lights activated. A person can be seen walking southbound seconds after the last shot is fired, and seconds later, running.

  • 7:56:41 p.m. 3940 Grande Boulevard: Approximately four minutes after the murder, an unidentified black male was observed walking northbound to the intersection of Jacksonville Drive and Grande Boulevard. The individual was wearing dark colored pants, tan shirt, boots, and a lightcolored hat.
  • 8:00:09 p.m. (Actual)/ 8:17:09 p.m. (Time Stamp) 1600 Shetter Avenue: The SUSPECT TRUCK traveled westbound on Shetter Avenue. Once the SUSPECT TRUCK reached the cul-desac, it immediately turned around and traveled eastbound and left the frame. This location is .20 miles from GARDNER and FERNANDEZ SALDANA’s residence. The truck and the TENON were separated after the homicide.
  • 8:13:33 p.m. South Beach Parkway and Rip Tide Boulevard: The male believes to be TENON walked northbound on South Beach Parkway. This location is approximately .46 miles from the intersection of Jacksonville Drive and Grande Boulevard.

Based on review of surveillance, that one of the TARGET SUBJECTS was driving the SUSPECT TRUCK after the homicide, while the male (believed to be TENON) was on foot.

Interview with Mario Saldana

On March 1, 2022, Gardner and Fernandez Saldana came into police headquarters to be formally interviewed in the case.

Mario Sadana Interview

Fernandez Saldana stated that he attempted to reach out to Bridegan after marrying Gardner, but Bridegan did not respond to his efforts. He explained that communication between the two families was typically through text messages and emails. Fernandez Saldana characterized his interactions with Bridegan as persistent and pestering.

Fernandez Saldana recounted an incident where he walked up to Bridegan’s house and knocked on the door. When the children answered, they informed him that he was not allowed to knock on the door, as they usually left the house after receiving a text message signaling the other party had arrived. Fernandez Saldana responded by telling the children that he could do whatever he wanted. Following this, Bridegan sent him an email warning that he would file a restraining order if he ever came to the door again. Fernandez Saldana went on to explain that the only time everyone was in the same room was usually in court. He stated that he once attempted to shake Bridegan’s hand in court, but Bridegan refused to acknowledge him. He further described how Bridegan and his wife would not acknowledge their presence at events involving the children.

Fernandez Saldana explained the process for “date night” when Bridegan came to pick up the children. He stated that when Bridegan arrived, he would send a text, and the children would leave the house to get into the car with their father. Upon returning home, the children would either enter through the garage if it was open or use the keypad if it wasn’t. He added that the dogs would bark, signaling the children had returned. Fernandez Saldana also noted that there was no agreement in place requiring either parent to inform the other about where the children would be taken for date night.

Fernandez Saldana described the events of date night on February 16, 2022, the night of the incident. He stated that Bridegan arrived at 6:30 p.m. and sent a text message saying “here.” The children returned home at the agreed-upon time of 7:45 p.m. Although Fernandez Saldana did not see the children enter the house, he mentioned that he heard them come in. At the time, he was “racked out” on the couch. After the children arrived, he went upstairs to take a shower. He noted that Gardner greeted the children when they returned.

Mario Fernandez Saldana explained that he was “really out of it” that night due to taking high doses of Gabapentin, a medication that left him “zoned out.” He described feeling “more out of it than anything” that evening. He also mentioned that both he and Gardner asked the children about their date night. The children said they had gone to Bearded Pig and that the evening was uneventful. They informed Fernandez Saldana that Bridegan had spent some time on the phone before they entered the restaurant.

After the children went to bed, Mario Fernandez Saldana did laundry while Shanna Gardner completed chores around the house. They were preparing for bed when detectives arrived to inform Gardner of Bridegan’s death. Fernandez Saldana noted that when the detectives first arrived, he initially thought their visit might be related to an ongoing dispute over animals in the neighborhood.

Interview with Sanna Gardner

On March 1, 2022, Gardner and Fernandez Saldana came into police headquarters to be formally interviewed in the case.

Shanna Gardner Interview

Gardner stated that she met Jared through his brother’s wife. At the time, both she and Jared were single, and Jared flew to Utah to take her on a date. She mentioned that their initial date didn’t go well, but Jared persisted in pursuing her. Gardner admitted that she eventually felt desperate and decided to give the relationship a chance. They married just two months later. Reflecting on it, Gardner wondered if Jared had ulterior motives, knowing she came from a wealthy background.

They eventually had children, which added strain to their relationship, particularly due to their son’s illness. They moved from Utah to Connecticut to be closer to specialists for their son, Liam. Once Liam’s condition stabilized, they relocated to Jacksonville to be near Jared’s family for support with the children. Less than a year after the move, they divorced, and Gardner left the Mormon Church. She stated that Jared “drained” their accounts during the divorce and that it was a traumatic experience because Jared refused to move out of the house.

Gardner explained that the house had been purchased with money from her trust, but when the funds were removed, the property became a joint asset. Jared wanted his share of the proceeds from the sale of the house. Gardner recalled that in March 2015, Jared became increasingly paranoid, insisting that all communication be written down and refusing to speak to her directly. After the divorce, Jared avoided being in the same room with Gardner. They held separate parent-teacher conferences and conducted doctor’s appointments via phone, though Gardner admitted she would “just show up” because she didn’t care.

Gardner also discussed their “date night” routine, which occurred every other week. Initially scheduled from 5:45-7:45 p.m., it shifted to 6:30-7:45 p.m. around December 2021 because their daughter, Abby, had gymnastics. Jared had wanted to cancel date night, but the children did not, so they simply adjusted the time. The children were typically kept for the full duration, and there was no need to share plans between the parents. However, they would often ask the children what they did when they returned.

Gardner stated that on the night in question, both she and Mario were home when the children were dropped off. She had made a quick trip to Walmart while the children were with Jared. The usual routine was for Jared to text when he arrived, and the children would go out to get into his car. At the end of date night, Jared would drop them off, and they would enter the house through the garage.

She recounted that on the evening of the incident, she was with headphones on, cooking dinner after returning from Walmart. Mario had a severe headache and was asleep. Gardner mentioned that Abby was waiting outside to wave goodbye as Jared turned around in the cul-de-sac and headed for the stop sign. Abby was very specific that they were dropped off at 7:48 p.m. Gardner confirmed that nothing unusual had been mentioned by the children about the evening. The only thing they brought up was that Jared had been on a work phone call when they first arrived at the restaurant, and they had to eat quickly to make it back home on time.

Gardner mentioned that some tension arose because the children were unable to attend the funeral, as Jared’s family did not want her (Shanna) at the service. She said the children were coping with “this” better than expected, though they were still in shock. She explained that since the households are “so divided,” the children were not being overly triggered by the situation. However, Liam became upset when it was time for him to visit Jared, and Abby has been talking more about missing her sisters.

When asked if she would be open to having the twins speak with a child psychologist (CPT interview) about the incident, Gardner said she would need to consult their therapist and would get back with an answer. But she later agreed to the interview, which is scheduled for Friday, March 4th, at 1:00 p.m.

on March 4, 2022 the twins were interviewed by members of the Child Protection Team Their statements contradicted those of Mario Fernandez Saldana about where he was in the home that night and what he was doing.

The children noted that they believed he was in a back room because the television lights were on, but they never saw him. They also stated that they normally would come back into the house through the garage, but that night, the garage was closed, which was unusual, so they had to use the front door.

Investigation – Interviews

On June 28, 2022 investigators interviewed a friend of both Fernandez and Gardner. She recounted a conversation in which Gardner told her, “Mario offered to get four guys and break into Bridegan’s residence…to take care of him, and nobody would ever know.”

The friend also told investigators that Fernandez once told her, “You know I’ve killed people before.” She took that as a threat.

She said Gardner told her she only married Fernandez for child custody reasons, so that it would look good in court, and her parents would give her more money.

Investigators also interviewed a college friend of Fernandez, who dated him. She said Fernandez called her the night after the murder and said he knew who did it, and characterized it as a “hit and run.” She acknowledged that Mario had never made threats toward Bridegan.

Investigation – Mario’s Rental Property

On July 18, 2022, police went to a rental house in Jacksonville on Potomac Avenue owned by Mario Fernandez, and there they talked to the current occupant and saw a spare tire leaning against the house. The renter said he’d found it on the curb and told police they could have it if they wanted.

As the detective was loading the tire into his truck, Henry Tenon drove up. There was a brief conversation about unrelated things.

Police later tested the tire and it matched the tire found at the murder scene, so they went back to Potomac Avenue. The current renter told police Tenon went to Georgia to get his father’s blue Ford pickup truck after his father died.

The investigators’ focus then narrowed onto Tenon, especially after police got hits on the truck all over Jacksonville.

Vehicle of interest that is connected to the Murder

In August 2022, Tenon was arrested on an unrelated felony driving charge, he was driving Ford F-150 Truck, he was questioned about Bridegan’s murder and a Ford F-150 truck they had been searching for since the shooting.

Authorities revealed that a crucial piece of evidence that led to the investigation of Henry Arthur Tenon was his pickup truck, which had been captured on nearby security video. This footage placed Tenon at the scene and sparked further scrutiny into his possible involvement in the crime.

As the pieces of the puzzle began to fit together, it became clear that the case was far more complex than anyone had initially imagined. The involvement of Saldana, coupled with Tenon’s testimony, pointed to a chilling conspiracy that had been brewing behind the scenes. The legal proceedings that followed would be closely watched, as the community sought answers and justice for the crimes committed.

As investigators dug deeper, they uncovered more damning evidence. An arrest warrant detailed that Tenon’s financial records from his bank revealed three handwritten checks from Mario Fernandez Saldana, all dated in October 2022. This discovery raised suspicions about the nature of their relationship and the potential motives behind the payments.

Search Warrant

Search Warrant for 5239 Potomac Avenue

Mario Fernandez Saldana Rental Property – Rented by Tenon

On October 6, 2022, a search warrant for 5239 Potomac Avenue was executed. Upon executing the search warrant, four occupants were found present in the residence Norma Davila, Devin Hightower, and Dane Hade were all located at the residence.

A search of the residence was conducted, and items of interest were collected.. Clothing was collected, including a pair of work boots matched to unknown male observed in the relevant surveillance.

One of Tenon’s cellular phones, was recovered from the search was conducted at 5239 Potomac Avenue. JSO Digital Forensics Unit performed a forensic download of Tenon’s phone, and an audio recording was discovered between Mario and Tenon.

On October 6, 2022 3 :52 p.m. Detectives initiated a controlled call between Mario and a Tenant, to informed him that ATF served a search warrant at 5239 Potomac ave. Fernandez Saldana asked if … received any contact information or a copy of the search warrant. Mario wanted to know what was taken from the residence. “Reducted” asked why a search warrant would be conducted at Potomac. Mario replied that he did not know and stated, “it does not make sense.” Fernandez Saldana apologized for having to deal with the situation. The call ended at 3:58 p.m.

On October 14, 2022, investigators obtained Tenon’s financial records from PNC Bank and discovered three handwritten checks from Fernandez Saldana.

Further analysis of Tenon’s phone records revealed 35 phone contacts with Fernandez Saldana in February, 30 in March, and 5-9 in May and June.

Bank records showed three handwritten checks that Fernandez wrote to Tenon.

Phone Records

Further investigation into phone records provided additional insight. It was found that Tenon and Fernandez Saldana had communicated 35 times during February of that year. The frequency and timing of these communications, coupled with the financial transactions, painted a picture of a conspiracy between the two men. This evidence was critical in building the case against both Tenon and Saldana, leading to their arrests and the subsequent charges of murder and conspiracy.

Cell Phone

Cell Phone Historical Records

Cellphone Activity

Cellular telephone records connect the conspirators as well. Toll records show a significant increase in contact immediately before and after the murder compared to the otherwise sporadic contact between them in the six weeks before the murder. Phone contacts between Fernandez Saldana and showed a high number of contacts leading up to the murder.

The day before the murder, Fernandez Saldana called and sent texts to Tenon, and On the night of the murder, there were periods phones were not communicating with their corresponding networks – a noticeable data markedly different from their normal usage records — suggesting the phones were turned off or placed in airplane mode not to send or receive calls or messages.

6:00 PM – On the night of the murder, Tenin turned off his phone or placed in airplane mode. Tenon was known for carrying two phones at all times.

6:40 PM One of Tenon’s phones resumed connectivity 40 minutes after the murder in the area of Beaches Baptist Hospital, which is approximately 1.4 miles from the murder scene. Tenon was on foot and in possession of one of his phones, while the other was left behind in his truck. The two phones attempted to contact each other during this time frame. Location data confirmed the phones were physically separated. Detectives believed this evidence indicated that

  • Device Tag #1584152919- (904) 801-7612 Hereafter, “TENON I.”
  • Device Tag #1561556364 – (904) 442-0513 Hereafter, “TENON 2.”

In reviewing Tenon’s cellular telephone location data, two dates in January 2022

January 5 and January 29, 2022 Tenon drove to Jacksonville Beach, the same route as the one used by Bridegan on the evening of the murder.

Google provided location data for two unique devices – device tag: 1584152919 and device tag: 1561556364. An analysis of this data in conjunction with available toll records for Tenon’s two phone numbers determined that (904) 801-7612 corresponded with Device Tag: -1584152919 (TENON 1) and (904) 442-0513 corresponded with Device Tag: -1561556364 (TENON 2) and both devices were in Jacksonville Beach the night of the murder.

January 25, 2023 – Arrests

On January 25, 2023, a significant development shook the quiet community of Jacksonville Beach. The city’s Police Department Chief, Gene Paul Smith, alongside State Attorney Melissa Nelson, held a press conference to announce a shocking arrest. Henry Arthur Tenon, a 61-year-old man, had been taken into custody. The charges against him were grave: conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree murder with a weapon, accessory after the fact to a capital felony, and child abuse. Tenon conspired to mirder Jared Bridegan on January 4, 2022 just over a month before Bridegan was killed.

Police not only had surveillance audio from neighbors, but they also obtained surveillance video of the ambush murder. The video showed the muzzle flashes and the shooter running off.

On March 16, Tenon pleaded guilty to the charges against him. In a surprising twist, he agreed to cooperate with the authorities and testify against another individual tied to the case—Mario Fernandez Saldana.

That same day, in Orlando, police arrested Saldana, a 34-year-old man with a deep connection to the case. Saldana was the husband of Jared Bridegan’s ex-wife, a detail that only added layers to the unfolding drama. The charges against him were even more severe than those against Tenon: first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, solicitation to commit a capital felony, and child abuse.

Arrest

August 18, 2022: Tenon was detained during a traffic stop with the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. TENON was placed under arrest for felony traffic charges, and he was transported to the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (“CGIC”) to be interviewed in reference to the murder.

Jan. 25, 2023, Jacksonville Beach PD Chief Gene Paul Smith and State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced the arrest of Henry Arthur Tenon, 61, on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree murder with a weapon, accessory after the fact to a capital felony, and child abuse.

On January 25, 2023, Henry Tenon, 61, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder with a weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, accessory after the fact, and child abuse in connection with the February 16, 2022, execution-style killing in north Florida.

On February 1, 2023, Melissa Nelson, the State Attorney for the Fourth Judicial District, announced a major development in the case during a press conference, stating, “We know that Tenon did not act alone.” Her office formally filed the charging document against Tenon on that day. The document alleges that between January 4, 2022, and February 16, 2022, Tenon conspired with others to unlawfully and with premeditated intent, cause the death of Jared Bridegan.

Henry Tenon was living at 5239 Potomac Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32254, a property he was renting from Mario Fernandez. Fernandez had purchased the house on March 30, 2017, and sold it on October 18, 2022.

The evidence against Tenon includes surveillance footage and cell phone tracking data showing his dark blue F-150 truck in the vicinity of the crime scene on the night of the murder. The truck, later found by police, contained a spare tire linked to the setup of the shooting. DNA evidence from the tire matched Tenon’s.

GPS data also revealed that in the month before the murder, Tenon drove the murder route twice, which prosecutors described as “a practice run of the homicide route.” He drove from his Westside home to Jacksonville Beach, following the path Bridegan would take to return to his St. Johns County home after leaving Gardner’s house.

  • Charges against Tenon include:
  • Second-degree murder with a weapon
  • Conspiracy to commit first-degree murder
  • Accessory after the fact to a capital felony
  • Child abuse

In March 2023, Henry Tenon, who worked as a handyman for Fernandez, pleaded guilty to murdering Jared Bridegan. As part of a plea agreement, Tenon agreed to cooperate and testify truthfully against Fernandez. In return, he was promised a prison sentence ranging from 15 years to life. Tenon had been the first suspect arrested in the case, and his charges included second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, accessory after the fact, and child abuse.

Investigators Plan – Gardner

Intercepted communications

Calls Warrant

Contact will be made with a friend of Gardner’s, was a close friend of Shanna for many years. She was in contact with Shanna Gardner in the weeks immediately following the homicide, including being one of several calls Gardner made after her interview with JBPD. She had previously been contacted by JBPD and asserted that she was Gardner neighbor and expressed some dislike for Bridegan. Affiant believes that will call and infonn GARDNER about the contact, which might lead HER to contact FERNANDEZ SALDANA.

  • A “leak” to targeted media personnel will be made to inform them that a “law enforcement source” confirms that there has been an “update,” “break,” and/or “additional information” is forthcoming regarding the homicide investigation of Bridegan. Affiant believes this leak will incite the TARGET SUBJECTS to communicate with one another and potentially with outside persons regarding the investigation.
  • JBPD will officially confirm to the media that a press conference will be held the following day to discuss this new info1mation. The confirmation will be intentionally vague, so as to trigger the TARGET SUBJECTS to theorize and discuss what this information could be and to potentially provoke action by the TARGET SUBJECTS in regards to physical evidence.
  • JBPD will hold a press conference announcing the anest of TENON for the charges of Conspiracy to Connnit Murder, Murder, Tampering with Evidence, and Child Abuse.
  • Following the press conference, members of Bridegan’s family will give select media interviews regarding the case concurrent with TENON’s first appearance.
  • If these actions do not trigger or if Affiant develops other investigative techniques and avenues, Affiant will seek judicial approval from Judge Charbula.
  • All intercepted communications will be minimized in accordance with the intent of Chapter 934, Florida Statutes

One of Tenon’s phones audio recording was recovered which captured a conversation were Tenon was heard discussing a money transfer and waiting for $5,000 to clear from the bank, and he would pay with that money. The recording occurred two days after TENON deposited the last $ he received from Fernandez Saldana.

Shannan Records

Motive and Financial Transactions

Joint Accounts

Subpoenas were issued for all known bank accounts and credit cards for Fernandez Saldana and Shanna Gardner. Their house was held jointly. All other accounts were held individually.

Shanna Gardner ran a small baking business out of her home. The majority of her income came from an Irrevocable Trust that was funded by Gardner’s parents. Fernandez Saldana was listed as Trustee on the trust.

Trust records stated: “when our daughter, Shanna, shall have no further legal entanglements with her ex-husband, Jared G. Bridegan, she may elect to serve as the Trustee.”

Mario Fernandez Saldana also was listed as the owner of the two vehicles they possessed. Fernandez Saldana also relied on the trust as his primary source of income. He did receive a small amount of income from some rental properties and provided personal training out of his garage. Fernandez Saldana also applied for, and received, benefits from Veterans Administration for disability despite being ineligible due to his Less Than Honorable discharge.

Motive:

In reviewing financial records, investigators discovered the majority of Gardner’s income came through an irrevocable trust that Gardner’s parents funded. Fernandez Saldana is the listed trustee. The trust language provides, “when our daughter, Shanna, shall have no further legal entanglements with her ex-husband, Jared G. Bridegan, she may elect to serve as Trustee.”

Murder Opportunity:

Shanna Gardner’s motive to murder Bridegan and the means to do so, Fernandez Saldana and his associates had the unique opportunity to murder Jared Bridegan as he had a routine. Every other Wednesday night, Bridegan had dinner with his twins from his marriage with Gardners and brought his 2 year-old daughter so she could get to know her half-siblings. On the night of his murder, Bridegan dropped the twins off at his ex-wife’s home in Jacksonville Beach after dinner and then headed to his own home in Nocatee. Fernandez Saldana and Gardner knew Bridegan’s dinner schedule with his daughters. They knew when he would be coming to get his daughters and when he would be returning them. They also knew the route he would take to pick them up, and the route he would take after returning them. Gardner and Fernandez Saldana’s Jacksonville beach residence was the last place Bridegan was seen alive before he was murdered. Gardner and Fernandez Saldana both knew of Bridegan’s particular driving pattern and routine at approximately the same time every Wednesday “Date Night,” as the routine was a habit between the two couples for the previous eight (8) months.

By 2022, and at the time of Bridegan’s murder, Gardner and Fernandez Saldana were planing to divorce – even advising such to the twins’ school.

Shanna Gardner and Fernandez Saldana have publicly through legal counsel and the media said they live together as a married couple, but surveillance has revealed that they are separated and living in different states. Fernandez Saldana is Clmently living in Orlando, Florida.

Gardner has moved to the State of Washington. She is currently living in a home valued over a million dollars that an LLC owned by her parents have purchased. Though she has not yet obtained a Washington state driver’s license, she has enrolled the twins in school. Her Jacksonville Beach home was not on the market, at that time.

February 6, 2023, 4:51 PM Special Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), along with officers from the Jacksonville Beach Police Department and West Richland Police Department, executed a federal search warrant on the home, person, and vehicle of Shanna GARDNER-FERNANDF7 in West Richland, Washington. Upon arrival at the residence, located at 4754 Laurel Dr. West Richland, WA 99353, Shanna GARDNER FERNANDEZ was detained by West Richland Police Department for a search of her person. Agents contacted GARDNER Fernandez’s mother, Shelli Gardner (Ms. Gardner), at the entrance to the home. Ms. Gardner was asked by ATF S/A Kenneth Stengel if she had a cell phone on her and she indicated her phone was on the “kitchen counter.” ATF S/A Katlin Standiford was asked to conduct a frisk of Ms. Gardner which was completed with nothing found.

Gardner was notified by S/A Stengel of the federal warrant to search the home and she was asked to wait with her grandchildren and their dog in the home “office” located just off the main entrance of the residence. While waiting in the office, One of the twins asked “what are they looking for?” Standiford responded, “we’re looking for phones.” response was, “Like burner phones?”. also told Standiford that his mom keeps all her “important” electronics in her “bedroom closet,” and then whispered “up above” pointing towards the ceiling. Ms. Gardner, grandmother, added something to the effect of that’s also where she keeps the candy.

February 23, 2022, one week after Bridegan’s murder and precisely seven years after she filed for dissolution of their marriage, a suggestion of death [Bridegan’s death] appeared in the records of their dissolution case with the St. Johns County Clerk of Court. By all accounts, in the months and years preceding the murder, GARDNER wanted to leave the State of Florida with her children.

However, her dissolution decree prevented her from leaving the state permanently with her children without an agreement from Bridegan or a court order. With Bridegan’s death, she became free to leave the state with her children- which she has done. And with no legal entanglements with “her ‘ex-husband”‘, she now also can control her trust funds.

Shanna Gardner — has now been charged with murdering the father of four. Prosecutors in Florida are seeking the death penalty.

Jared Bridegan’s ex-wife on first-degree murder charges in the conspiracy that led to his ambush shooting last year.

A grand jury in Florida indicted Shanna Gardner and was later arrested in Washington state.

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agents arrested her in West Richland, Washington, where she moved with the twins she shared with Bridegan. ATF’s Jacksonville field office had been assisting Jacksonville Beach Police Department detectives since early in the investigation.

Gardner will be extradited to Duval County to face the charges which also include a solicitation to commit first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and child abuse.

Mario’s indictment said he plotted the murder within the four months leading to Bridgegan’s death, but Garnder’s indictment said she may have been scheming to kill Bridegan as early as May 2015 a few months before their divorce was finalized.

Thursday morning, August 17, 2023 Police executed a federal search warrant at Gardner’s home and car in West Richland, Washington. Shanna was detained during the search, while her mother and children, who were also present in the home, were supervised by the police.

Upon arrival, officers seized Gardner’s Apple Watch and iPhone.

The investigation report notes that officers informed an individual (whose name was redacted) that they were specifically searching for phones. The individual responded, “Like burner phones?”

One of Gardner’s children mentioned to police that she kept “important” electronics in her bedroom closet, according to the report.

During the search, police confiscated a Wingtech cell phone, an Acer laptop, a tablet, two Apple MacBooks, and a T-Mobile SIM card. The phone found on Gardner and the Apple Watch were also taken as evidence.

Shanna Gardner-Fernandez was taken into custody on the morning of Thursday, August 17, at her home on Laurel Drive by ATF agents from Yakima and Jacksonville. She was later booked into the Benton County Jail for her alleged involvement in the February 2022 murder of Jared Bridegan in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
