Friday, November 8, 2024:

• 2:38 PM HST – Hannah Kobayashi departed from her home in Maui, Hawaii, en route to New York City, with a scheduled layover at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Hannah’s ex-boyfriend was also on that flight from Maui to LAX because they booked it before they broke up.
• 10:01 PM PST – landed in LA
• 10:52 PM missed her connecting flight.
• Hannah called from LAX and told her aunt Geordan Montalvo she missed her flight, and was trying to re-book it, telling her,

“I’ll meet you there.”

Saturday, November 9, 2024:

• 12:00 PM Hannah went to a bookstore at The Grove, a local mall, around noon. There she charged her phone and signed up for the mailing list as well as the store’s book club. USA Today
  
• 2:43 PM Hannah was back at the at Taschen bookstore where she took a photo and sent to her Aunt
  
• 3:40 PM video shows Hannah wandering around the famous shopping mall, The Grove.
• Hannah then sent a Venmo payment to two people whose names the family does not recognize, according to her sister Sydni.
• That evening, she went back to LAX and called her aunt Geordan Montalvo to tell her she was still trying to get on a flight to New York.

• Hannah sends a concerning text message to a friend/roomate:

• The family has confirmed sightings of Hannah at LAX
• 3:40 PM footage of her passing by a LeBron James event.
• she went back to the airport and called Geordan Montalvo to tell her she was still coming to New York.

November 11, 2024:

• 6:56 AM Hannah Called a family member from LAX and left a message ( according to her aunt Larie)

• 4:30 PM – Hannah’s phone activity was at LAX
• 5:00 PM Hannah was at a ticketing booth. Note: A ticketing agent told the family that they spoke to Hannah that day and that she was discussing buying a new ticket either back to Maui or to New York.
• 5:33 PM – She posted a picture on her Instagram account and turned off her phone.

• At some point that day, Hannah picked up her luggage.
• 9:04 Hannah boards LAX Metro C line at Aviation/Century Station.
• She transferred trains at the Rosa Parks station. Note: That same day, the family got a confirmed sighting of Hannah and an unidentified person getting on the train. She was wearing a black sweatshirt with a blue emblem on the front, and tie-dyed pant, as well as black and white sneakers. Her aunt said she was also carrying a dark green backpack and wearing glasses with a clear rim.
  
• 10:05 PM Hannah exited the train around Pico Station. Note: Family members learned that Hannah exited the train around Pico Station, which is one of the places they went to look after arriving for the search. “It wasn’t a good neighborhood,” her aunt said. “And the officers that were there and people that we spoke with, they were like, you don’t come here after dark.”

• A YouTube video showing Hannah at an event at The Grove in Los Angeles on November 9 indicated she was in the area after missing her flight.

October, 2024 

• Alan Cacace and Hannah Kobayashi married at Ho’okipa Beach on Maui’s north shore. Alan Cacace had given Hannah $15,000 with the promise of a similar sum once the immigration documents that allowed him to stay in the United States were issued.

November 15, 2024:

November 17, 2024

• The family released a statement on Sunday, November 17, 2024, saying they had obtained surveillance footage showing Hannah Kobayashi near the Pico Metro station near Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles.

“In the footage, it is evident that Hannah does not appear to be in good condition, and she is not alone,” the statement read.

• The search for Hannah has focused on the area near LAX, a bus line, and the C and K-Line trains of the Los Angeles Metro.

Hannah is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 140 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes, fair skin, and freckles. Anyone with information about Hannah’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department or local authorities.

November 24, 2024

• Hannah’s father, Ryan Kobayashi who had been tirelessly searching for Hannah in Los Angeles, lost hope. Overwhelmed by despair, he jumped from a parking garage near LAX, ending his own life.

November 26, 2024

• A Police Commission meeting took place, during which LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell made an announcement.

December 1, 2024

• Hannah family released a statement on their Facebook Group – The family has been faced with the difficult decision to remove the “Find Hannah” page from Facebook.
  

The family will continue to rely on the private professionals and legal counsel to assist in their efforts moving forward. To those of you who graciously donated to the family’s go fund me, rest assured that Sydni is being fiscally responsible with those funds and utilizing every dime to bring Hannah to safety and lay her father, Ryan, to rest.

December 2, 2024

Investigators released information that they obtained a border security video showing Hannah Kobayashi leaving the United States near Tijuana between November 12 and 13, a day or so after members of her family said they had last heard from her via text message. Source

• The individual she was seen with on the Metro was interviewed in the presence of an attorney and family members. He stated that they had met at LAX, and he was subsequently cleared of any involvement.
• Investigators discovered that Hannah expressed a desire to disconnect from society.
• Before her departure to Mexico, she requested that her bags be sent to her at LAX airport.
• She traveled using the MTA, relying on cash and her passport for transactions.
• On November 12, 2024, at 12:13 PM, she crossed the Mexican border alone, accompanied by her luggage.

On December 1, 2024, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Missing Persons Unit (MPU) investigators traveled to the US/Mexico border where they viewed video surveillance from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The footage clearly shows 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi crossing the United States border on foot into Mexico. She was alone, with her luggage. At this time, Kobayashi’s case has been classified as a voluntary missing person.

December 11, 2024

• Investigation: Hannah Kobayashi, 30, was on her way to New York from Maui, Hawaii with her Green Card husband Argentina-native Alan Cacace, her ex-boyfriend Amun Miranda and his green card wife – Cacace’s girlfriend – Marianne, when she walked out of LAX airport.
• Per Hannah friend: ‘The Argentinian couple wanted to hop on the trip at the last minute because it presented an opportunity for photos of their “romantic vacation”,’ But the dynamics of the group quickly got complicated. Hannah didn’t want either of them coming on this trip.

Kobayashi supposedly told them she didn’t want to waste time taking photos but would reluctantly sacrifice one day of her weekly planned vacation to satisfy their wishes. And then there was Marianne, who Kobayashi had a recent fight with revolving around her jealousy of marrying her boyfriend Cacace. ‘I do remember Hannah saying that the girlfriend had an issue with her,’ Desiree said. ‘And Hannah was like girl, I’m not trying to steal your man. Transcript: On Friday November 8, 29-year-old Hannah Kobayashi missed her connecting flight from LAX to New York which the investigation determined was intentional.

Over the next few days she maintained contact with her family and was active on Instagram however the family last heard from Hannah on November 11 after receiving concerning text messages and losing further contact her.

The family traveled to LA on November 13 and filed a missing person report on November 15, our missing person’s unit assumed investigative responsibility detectives have been diligently reviewing video surveillance and employing various investigative techniques to locate Hannah while her family has continued their personal search efforts.

Tragically on November 24 during the search for his daughter Hannah’s Father Ryan Kobayashi was found deceased preliminary findings indicate his death was by Suicide our hearts go out to the Kobayashi family during this unimaginable time of grief we remain fully committed to locating Hannah and supporting the family as they navigate their way through this tragedy

• Police have allegedly told the family she was last seen getting off a train at Pico station Downtown – just hours after she grew “paranoid” that someone had stolen her identity.
• “She was seen with an unidentified person. I’m hoping that if the police are willing to release it to get it out there.
• “It’s alarming because Hannah doesn’t know anyone in LA, her family doesn’t know anyone in LA, and she was traveling alone.
• “We were questioned, my sister who was the last to speak with her, was questioned today, 11 days later.

TRAFFICKING FEARS

• “So I think that they realize that we’re not going away, we’re not going away until they take this seriously.
• “In police terms, there’s got to be this series of events, she’s got to be sick or old or young, but why?
• “They were saying she was just avoiding the family and wanted to stay in LA, but we’re the family, and we know all the information.”
• She said her niece had spent $2,000 on a hotel room in New York and had landed her first photography gig at a concert.
• She had also made detailed plans for the trip and planned to meet up with family.
• After missing her connecting flight on November 8, family and friends began receiving strange texts from her saying she was scared and someone was trying to take her funds.
• “It’s not that I have anything against the LAPD; I just want them to hear us; I want them to listen to our voices that this is not like her,” Pidgeon said.
• “When you don’t hear from a loved one for 11 days, and I personally talk to her every other day for two hours, our family is close. What can you think?
• “You’re not thinking that she’s on a vacation; she’s tootling around LA and having a great time.
• “You’re going to words like trafficking, you’re going to words like abduction, really bad things.”
• Kobayashi was due to meet with another aunt, Geordan Montalvo, and her husband Bob when she arrived in New York and they have now spoken to police as her aunt was the last to speak with her.
• Going through the timeline of events, she told The U.S. Sun, “She got paranoid. She started saying, ‘How do you know it’s me?’

NIKE EVENT

• “And that’s when we were like, ‘Hannah, what is going on, are you okay? What’s happening?’”
• One of her texts read, “Deep Hackers wiped my identity, stole all of my funds, & have had me on a mind f*** since Friday,” later telling her family it was a “long story.”
• “Then we spoke on the phone, she sounded paranoid. I said are you with people, she said yes. But it was vague.
• “I said, ‘Do you feel safe?’ She said, ‘I think so.’
• “She said she was going back to LAX to see if she could reschedule her flight and talk to American Airlines. She said I love you, I said I love you too.
• “I was giving her instructions.”
• After missing her flight, she was seen by employees at the Taschen bookshop in The Grove shopping mall, about 10 miles from LAX
• She then attended a Nike and LeBron James event the following day and posted about it on Instagram.
• It is not known where she was staying overnight after missing her flight.
• Around this time, her family says she started sending strange messages but told them she was returning to LAX to sort out her flight and be reunited with them in New York.
• “She didn’t tell me why she went to the event at The Grove. She said, ‘I’ve just finished a spiritual journey, an awakening, and I’m going back to the LAX airport now,’” Montalvo said.
• Her aunt insists she is not into drugs and is more of a bookworm and a spiritual person.
• One of the texts read, “I got tricked pretty much into giving away all of my funds. For someone I thought I loved.”
• Her aunt said, “She’s definitely of sound mind, no mental illness. But it was just extremely odd.

STATION SPOTTING

• “She’s very artistic. It seemed she had to go off for a minute, and see some things, and then she was like, ‘Hey I’m done, I’m going to the airport, ready to go to New York City, can’t wait to see you.’
• “She did ask me for money, if she needed help getting to New York, I said yes of course, but let’s see what you can do first because you did already pay for this thing, see if you can reschedule.
• “I said how is it going? And she left it on read. That was the very last text message. That was about 2.50/3pm here this past Monday, the 11th.”
• One of her last texts read, “Hi loves. I just finished a very intense spiritual awakening. I’m charging my phone and heading back to the airport to get to NYC. I might need some help getting there, it’s a long story. I’ll keep you posted. I think I still have my hotel room.”
• But hours later, police told the family she was seen getting off a train in Downtown Los Angeles around 10.03 pm. She has not been seen or heard from since.
