Video Timeline of the Person of Interest

December 13, 2025

Source basis: This timeline is compiled from official releases by the Providence Police Department, the FBI, and the Rhode Island State Police, including enhanced surveillance video, still images, and a mapped video timeline publicly released on December 16, 2025. The footage is primarily sourced from residential security cameras, including doorbell cameras and vehicle dashcams, in the College Hill and East Side neighborhoods surrounding Brown University. Officials have stated that the Barus and Holley building had limited usable interior camera coverage.

Description provided by authorities:

The individual is described as a male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, stocky build, wearing dark clothing including a two-tone jacket, knit cap, and face mask. He initially appears to be wearing gloves and carrying a satchel or cross-body bag, which authorities state he appears to remove or discard during the sequence. Police have described his movements as consistent with pre-attack surveillance, citing repeated doubling back, pauses, a brief run, and changes to his appearance.

Morning and Early Afternoon Movements

10:30 a.m.

  • Earliest known appearance of the individual in the residential area surrounding Brown University. Providence Police later describe this as evidence of prolonged presence and area familiarization. Specific camera locations and timestamps for this earliest segment were not publicly detailed.

Shooting and Immediate Aftermath

4:03–4:05 p.m. (approximate)

  • The mass shooting occurs inside the Barus and Holley Engineering and Physics Building. Two students are killed and nine others are injured. Authorities have consistently described this time as approximate and have not released the exact timestamp of the first 911 call or first shots fired.

4:06 p.m. (post-shooting)

The individual is captured on dashcam footage exiting the area and moving east on Waterman Street after crossing Hope Street, near the arrival of police vehicles. This is the last publicly confirmed sighting released by authorities. No weapon is visible. The individual is walking calmly.

Timeline Note on Timing Consistency

    BROWN UNIVERSITY SHOOTING

    Suspect Brown University Shooting

Based on the visible details, this appears to be a two tone, hooded softshell or light insulated jacket with a horizontal color block across the chest and arms.

Columbia frequently produces two tone jackets with a darker yoke and sleeves and a lighter torso panel.

The subtle chest logo placement and overall fit are very consistent with Columbia softshells or lightweight insulated jackets from the last several years.

Possibly: Columbia Ascender, Gate Racer, or similar Omni Shield softshell lines.

Closest visual match: Ascender line, color blocked variants

What matches: the straight horizontal color block across the back and sleeves, plus the muted outdoor colors, is most consistent with Ascender softshell variants that use a dark upper yoke with a lighter lower body.
